BOYLE NETS FIRST CAREER HAT TRICK ON HOCKEY FIGHTS CANCER NIGHT

Devils forward Brian Boyle, who told NHL.com on Oct. 24th that his cancer is in remission, recorded his first career hat trick on Hockey Fights Cancer Awareness Night in Pittsburgh to help the Devils improve to 6-5-1 (13 points) this season.

* Boyle registered the first three-goal game of his 12-season career (705 GP). Only 23 players in NHL history have notched their first career hat trick after skating in 700 NHL games, including four others since the start of the 2011-12 season: Claude Giroux in 2017-18 (738 GP), Shea Weber in 2015-16 (711 GP), Brad Richards in 2012-13 (896 GP) and Shane Doan in 2011-12 (1,161 GP).

* His wife, Lauren, was named the NHL's Hockey Fights Cancer Ambassador for 2018-19 on Nov. 1st.

OVECHKIN, MARCHAND CLIMB ALL-TIME LISTS

Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin (1-0—1) and Bruins forward Brad Marchand (1-0—1) each scored key goals in their team’s victory to climb NHL all-time lists:

* Ovechkin – who has led the League in powerplay goals an NHL record six seasons – scored his fifth powerplay goal of 2018-19 and the 234th of his career to move into a tie with Marcel Dionne (234) for eighth on the NHL’s all-time list. Since his debut in 2005-06, Ovechkin has scored 99 more powerplay goals than the next closest player, with Thomas Vanek and Evgeni Malkin following him on the list with 135 powerplay markers over that span.



* Marchand netted his 13th career overtime goal to boost the Bruins to 8-4-2 (18 points) this season. In doing so, he built on his franchise record for most career overtime goals and moved into a five-way tie for 10th place in NHL history. Alex Ovechkin (22), Sidney Crosby (14) and Ilya Kovalchuk (14) are the only active NHL players with more career overtime goals.

GIROUX CONTINUES TO BUILD FLYERS LEGACY

Claude Giroux, who tied Chris Therien for fourth on the Flyers all-time games played list (753), recorded 2-1—3 on Monday to propel the Flyers to 7-7-1 (15 points) this season.

* Giroux registered three or more points in a game for the 49th time in his career - a number accomplished by just eight other players in Flyershistory. Franchise icon Bobby Clarke has recorded the most three-point games by a Flyers player with 110.

* Giroux leads all Flyers skaters with 6-11—17 in 2018-19. Last season, he registered 34-68—102 to become the first Flyers player to record 100 points in a season since Eric Lindros in 1995-96.

LAMORIELLO REACHES 2,400-GAME MILESTONE

Lou Lamoriello of the Islanders became the third general manager in NHL history to reach 2,400 games, trailing only David Poile (2,718) and Glen Sather (2,700). A three-time Stanley Cup champion (1995, 2000 and 2003 w/ NJD), Lamoriello also ranks third among general managers in wins with 1,219, behind Poile (1,344) and Sather (1,319).

OILERS FACE LIGHTNING ON NBCSN’S HOCKEY FIGHTS CANCER BROADCAST

The Oilers visit the Lightning at Amalie Arena in Tampa Bay on Tuesday as part of NBCSN’s Hockey Fights Cancer national broadcast in the U.S.

* Tampa Bay has a League-leading seven players who have recorded 10 or more points this season, led by BraydenPoint (8-9—17 in 14 GP). Point, who set career highs for goals, assists and points in 2017-18 (32-34—66 in 82 GP), was named Third Star of the Week after notching eight points in four contests. At 22 years, 231 days, he became the youngest player in Lightning history to record a five-point game on Oct. 30 (1-4—5).

* Edmonton, meanwhile, is again led offensively by captain Connor McDavid (10-12—22 in 14 GP). McDavid (21 years, 297 days) sits three goals shy of 100 for his career. Only two players in Oilers history have scored their first 100 career goals before celebrating their 22nd birthday: Wayne Gretzky (20 years, 40 days) and Mark Messier (21 years, 314 days).

* Additionally, only three active NHL players reached 100 career goals prior to their 22nd birthday: Ilya Kovalchuk (20 years, 312 days), Steven Stamkos (20 years, 316 days) and Sidney Crosby (21 years, 72 days).

CHASING MILESTONES

A number of players can reach significant career milestones on Tuesday:

* Sharks forward Joe Thornton sits two goals shy of 400 for his career. Thornton, who has recorded 398-1,031—1,429 in 1,498 career games, can become just the 11th player in NHL history to reach both the 400 goal and 1,000 assist milestones.

* Sharks defenseman Erik Karlsson sits one shy of 400 career assists (399 in 641 GP). Only 13 defensemen in NHL history have required 650 or fewer games to reach the 400-assist mark, with Bobby Orr (437 GP) the fastest blueliner to reach the milestone.

* Maple Leafs forward Patrick Marleau sits two assists shy of 600 for his NHL career, in which he would become the fifth active NHL player to reach the milestone behind Thornton (1,031), Penguins forward Sidney Crosby (713), Ducks forward Ryan Getzlaf (636) and Capitals forward Nicklas Backstrom (603).

* Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara - who leads all active NHL defensemen with 198 career goals - needs two tallies to become the 21st blueliner in NHL history to reach the 200-goal milestone.
