BERGERON NETS HAT TRICK AS PAIR OF BRUINS NOTCH 4 POINTS IN HOME OPENER
Patrice Bergeron (3-1—4) netted his fourth career hat trick and David Pastrnak (2-2—4) also collected four points to power the Bruins to victory in their home opener. Monday marked the first time in the Bruins’ 94-season history that two players recorded four or more points apiece in the club’s home opener.

* Bergeron became the fifth player in franchise history to record a hat trick in the team’s home opener, and first since Cam Neely did so in consecutive seasons (1994-95 and 1995-96). A veteran of 966 regular-season games, all with the Bruins, Bergeron now sits seven goals shy of becoming the sixth player in franchise history to score 300 career goals.

* Bergeron’s opening tally came just 0:30 into the contest and marked the third-fastest goal to start a home opener in Bruins franchise history.

LEHNER SHUTS OUT SHARKS IN ISLANDERS DEBUT
Robin Lehner turned aside all 35 shots he faced to backstop the Islanders to their first home win of 2018-19 and become the first goaltender in franchise history to post a shutout in his team debut.

* At least one goaltender recorded a shutout in his team debut in each of the past three seasons: Anders Nilsson (Oct. 17, 2017 w/ VAN), Mike Condon (Nov. 3, 2016 w/ OTT), Garret Sparks (Nov. 30, 2015 w/ TOR), Antti Raanta (Oct. 19, 2015 w/ NYR) and Antti Niemi (Oct. 8, 2015 w/ DAL).

* Did You Know? Craig Anderson holds the record for most saves in a shutout while making his team debut, making a 47-save shutout on Feb. 19, 2011 with the Senators - a game in which Lehner served as his backup.

DUCKS SECURE VICTORY IN HOME OPENER

Exactly 25 years after facing the Red Wings in their first-ever regular-season game, the Ducks defeated the club in a shootout to improve to 3-0-0 in 2018-19 and match their best three-game start in franchise history. The club also started with three straight wins in 2006-07, ending the season with their first Stanley Cup. Two Ducks who featured prominently in the win weren’t even born when the franchise entered the NHL in 1993-94 — 21-year-old Troy Terry and 19-year-old Max Comtois:

* Sporting the throwback Mighty Ducks jersey, Terry scored the only goal in the shootout - a familiar theme in his career. At the 2017 World Junior Championship, Terry scored three times in the shootout during the semifinals against Russia and later scored the decisive shootout marker in the final against Canada, lifting the United States to a gold medal.

* After scoring in each of his first two career games, Comtois collected an assist on Jakob Silfverberg’s tying goal. In doing so, Comtois became the second player in franchise history to record at least one point in each of his first three NHL games, joining Corey Perry who began his career with a four-game point streak in 2005-06 (1-3—4).

YOUNG GUNS LOOK IMPRESS YET AGAIN, REWRITE RECORDS
Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews and Canucks rookie Elias Pettersson are among the young stars in action on Tuesday as they look to build on early-season accomplishments:

* Matthews leads the Maple Leafs into Dallas, holding a share of the League lead with five goals through three games. In 2017-18, Alex Ovechkin began his Maurice “Rocket” Richard-winning campaign by scoring eight goals in Washington's first four games of the season - a feat achieved by only four others in the League’s expansion era (since 1967-68): Don Murdoch (1976-77 w/ NYR), Peter Stastny (1982-83 w/ QUE), Mark Parrish (2001-02 w/ NYI) and Patrick Marleau (2012-13 w/ SJS).

* In 100 previous campaigns, the Maple Leafs franchise has had only five players score a goal in each of the club’s first four games of the season: Corb Denneny (1921-22), Babe Dye (1925-26), Sweeney Schriner (1944-45), John Anderson (1981-82) and Clarke MacArthur (2010-11).

* After scoring eight goals Sunday, the Hurricanes and Andrei Svechnikov host Pettersson and the Canucks – who were part of an 11-goal game on Saturday. Pettersson has multiple points in each of his first two career games, including a goal in each. Only eight players in NHL history have recorded multiple points in each of their first three career games, with only two of those occurring outside the League’s inaugural season of 1917-18: Harvey Fraser from Nov. 1-9, 1944 w/ CHI and Alexandre Daigle from Oct. 6-14, 1993 w/ OTT.
