CANADIENS POST HISTORIC COMEBACK VERSUS SENATORS
Trailing 4-1, the Canadiens scored three times in the final 3:22 of regulation – including David Desharnais’ tying goal with 0.3 seconds left on the clock – to force overtime. Francis Bouillon, who hadn’t scored since March 10, 2013, then potted the winning goal at 1:26 of the extra period to cap Montreal’s comeback.

* According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the Canadiens’ victory marked the first time in NHL history that a team won a game in which it trailed by three goals in the final five minutes of the third period.

* Prior to Saturday, the latest three-goal deficit overcome by a winning team in an NHL game was on March 12, 1984, when the North Stars rallied from a 6-3 deficit in the final 5:05 of regulation en route to a 7-6 overtime victory against the Canadiens. Tom McCarthy scored three goals, including the winner 10 seconds into overtime, to power Minnesota’s comeback.

* Elias says that the last time the Canadiens won a game in which they trailed by three or more goals was on Nov. 1, 2008, when they rallied from a 4-1 deficit after 40 minutes to defeat the Islanders 5-4 in regulation.

* Elias also says that prior to Desharnais, the last time a Canadiens player scored a tying goal at 19:59 of the third period was on Oct. 30, 1982, when Pierre Mondou did so in an eventual 4-4 tie versus the Bruins. The last time any NHL player scored such a goal was on Nov. 25, 2013, when Penguins captain Sidney Crosby did so in an eventual 4-3 overtime loss to the Bruins.
