BARRIE’S FIVE-POINT OUTING POWERS AVALANCHE TO COMEBACK WIN

Tyson Barrie (1-4—5) tied the game with 3:01 remaining in regulation and assisted on the overtime winner by Nathan MacKinnon (1-3—4) as the Avalanche (32-23-4, 68 points) rallied past the Canucks. Colorado moved within three points of tying Minnesota (32-20-7, 71 points) for the final Wild Card spot in the Western Conference.

* The Avalanche, who overcame a 4-1 deficit, scored all five of their goals on the man advantage. This marked the fifth time in Avalanche/Nordiques franchise history that the club scored five power-play goals in a regular-season game and first since Dec. 27, 1992 at OTT (6-1 W).

* Barrie established an Avalanche/Nordiques franchise record for most points in a regular-season contest by a defenseman and became the second blueliner to post five points in a game this season, joining the Islanders’ Ryan Pulock on Jan. 20 at CHI (1-4—5). Barrie became the first defenseman to register five power-play points in a game since Tomas Kaberle (1-4—5) on Oct. 26, 2009 at ANA (w/ TOR).

* MacKinnon, meanwhile, boosted his 2017-18 totals to 25-40—65 (51 GP) and established single-season career highs for goals, assists and points. MacKinnon is second in the NHL with a 1.27 points per game average among players to appear in at least 50 contests this season, trailing only Tampa Bay’s Nikita Kucherov (1.30 P/GP).

SURGING BRUINS, FLYERS ALSO RALLY TO VICTORIES

The Bruins (37-13-8, 82 points) and Flyers (31-19-10, 72 points) each rallied to victories on Tuesday:

* Boston overcame a 2-0 deficit in the third period and David Krejci scored the go-ahead goal with 1:04 remaining in regulation to help the Bruins improve to 13-1-2 in their last 16 road games. Boston is second in the Atlantic Division standings, one point behind Tampa Bay (40-17-3, 83 points) for first place.

* The Bruins overcame a multi-goal deficit in the third period and won in regulation for the first time since April 2, 2015 at DET (3-2 W). Overall, Krejci scored the 21st go-ahead goal in the final 2:00 of regulation this season.

* Jakub Voracek (2-1—3) tied the game with 1:25 remaining in regulation and scored in overtime as the Flyers extended their point streak to nine games (7-0-2). Philadelphia is third in the Metropolitan Division standings, two points back of Pittsburgh (35-22-4, 74 points) for second place.

* Voracek became the second player in franchise history to score a game-tying goal in the final 2:00 of regulation and an overtime winner in a regular-season contest, joining Joni Pitkanen on Nov. 8, 2005 vs. BOS (4-3 OT W). Overall, Voracek notched the 55th game-tying goal in the final 2:00 of regulation this season, with teams who score these goals improving to 26-0-29 in those contests.

DID YOU KNOW?

The Flyers have not allowed a power-play opportunity in three consecutive games. Philadelphia became the second team in the past 40 years to play three straight contests without being shorthanded at any point in those games, joining Calgary from April 4-9, 2015.

ANOTHER 40-SAVE SHUTOUT FOR ANDERSEN

Frederik Andersen turned aside all 40 shots he faced to backstop the Maple Leafs (37-20-5, 79 points) to their seventh straight home win. Toronto is third in the Atlantic Division standings, three points back of Boston (37-13-8, 82 points) for second place.

* Andersen recorded his second 40-save shutout of the season (also Nov. 16 vs. NJD). He became the fifth Maple Leafs goaltender to register multiple shutouts when making at least 40 saves (since 1955-56 when shots on goal became an official NHL statistic).

* Andersen improved to 30-16-4 this season (2.66 GAA, .923 SV%, 5 SO) and reached the 30-win mark for the third time in his NHL career. He became the first Maple Leafs goaltender to record at least five shutouts in a season since Ed Belfour in 2003-04 (10).

LIGHTNING BECOME FIRST TEAM TO REACH 40-WIN MARK

The Lightning (40-17-3, 83 points) raced to a 3-0 lead in the first period en route to becoming the first team to reach the 40-win mark this season. Tampa Bay, who reclaimed first place in the NHL standings, required the fewest games in franchise history to reach 40 wins in a season (60 GP), eclipsing the mark of 66 contests set in 2014-15 (40-20-6, 86 points).

CENTRAL DIVISION-LEADING PREDATORS EXTEND ROAD POINT STREAK

Juuse Saros made 34 saves to help the Central Division-leading Predators (36-14-9, 81 points) extend their road point streak to eight games (5-0-3). Nashville moved within one point of Vegas (39-16-4, 82 points) for first place in the Western Conference.

* The Predators earned at least one point in eight consecutive road games for the second time this season (also 6-0-2 from Nov. 24 – Dec. 27). Nashville became the first team to record multiple road point streaks of at least eight games in a season since the Kings did so in 2013-14 en route to capturing the franchise’s second Stanley Cup.

BLUE JACKETS DEFEAT DEVILS TO CLAIM FINAL WILD CARD SPOT . . .

Scott Harrington scored the go-ahead goal in the second period to help the Blue Jackets (30-25-5, 65 points) defeat the Devils and snap a three-game slide (0-2-1). Columbus claimed the final Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference standings.

. . . AS HALL EXTENDS POINT STREAK

Devils forward Taylor Hall (1-0—1) extended his point streak to 12 games (8-7—15) and has recorded at least one point in 19 consecutive appearances dating to Jan. 2 (13-14—27), the longest such run in Devils franchise history.

* Hall’s 12-game point streak matches the longest in the NHL this season, a mark set by Boston’s David Pastrnak from Nov. 22 – Dec. 18 (5-9—14). Hall became the first Devils player to record at least one point in 12 consecutive team games since Ilya Kovalchuk from Feb. 1-25, 2011 (7-7—14).

PACIFIC DIVISION CLUBS SECURE KEY WINS

The Sharks (33-19-8, 74 points) and Kings (33-22-5, 71 points) each secured key wins on Tuesday:

* Mikkel Boedker (1-1—2) scored for the fourth straight contest (5-2—7), including consecutive game winners, to help Sharks improve to 5-1-0 in their last six outings. San Jose strengthened its hold on second in the Pacific Division standings, eight points back of Vegas (39-16-4, 82 points) for first place.

* Anze Kopitar collected an assist to reach the 800-point milestone (280-520—800 in 900 GP) and help the Kings pick up their third straight win on the heels of a three-game slide (0-3-0). Los Angeles moved past Anaheim (30-20-11, 71 points) for third place in the Pacific Division standings, three points back of San Jose.
