NHL, NHLPA will tweak goalie gear...sort of

As the Score's Kevin Poulin notes, the NHL and NHLPA have come to something of an agreement regarding the league's desire to reduce the thigh rises of goalies' pads. Per InGoal Magazine's Kevin Woodley:

As such, goalies who are measured for "legal" pads and then wear them in a manner that presses the pads up above their skates to ride higher on their legs won't be penalized for doing so.

This much is good:

Given that it's August 7th, you can only tweak so much. Goalies are already wearing "next year's pads" or are at least ordering them, so it's difficult to ask goalies to change the mechanics of their play during and after training camp.
