Metro Division Game Between Rangers and Capitals Lead NHL Secondary Market

12/15/2015 at 11:02pm EST

By Joe Sudberg,

The New York Rangers will try and cut into the Metropolitan division lead held by the Washington Capitals in the most expensive hockey game on the secondary market this week when the two clubs play on December 20th at Madison Square Garden. The Capitals have been one of the hottest teams in the league for a better part of two weeks, going 8-1-1 in their last 10, while having a three-point lead on the rest of the Metropolitan and a four-point lead on the struggling Rangers, who have dropped three straight.

The average ticket price of $297.56 and get-in price of $113 is one of four NHL games this week with an average ticket price over the $200 mark. The other three games are listed below, with information provided by TiqIQ.com.

12/20/2015 | Chicago Blackhawks vs. San Jose Sharks | United Center | Average Price: $293.02 | Get-in Price: $107 | Mini Stick Giveaway

12/18/2015 | Winnipeg Jets vs. New York Rangers | MTS Centre | Average Price: $232.64 | Get-in Price: $189

12/19/2015 | Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Los Angeles Kings | Air Canada Centre | Average Price: $216.96 | Get-in Price: $59

The Chicago Blackhawks seemed to have found their groove and continue to be near the top of the NHL secondary market week-in and week-out, but even more so now with the point streak of Patrick Kane. He currently holds a 26-game point streak, which is the longest the league has seen in more than 20 years. The average price for a ticket, which comes with a mini stick giveaway, is $293.02 with a get-in price of $107 against the San Jose Sharks, who have lost six straight.

The Rangers show up twice, as a road game against the Winnipeg Jets is in the second spot. Entrance into the MTS Centre has an average ticket price of $232.64 and a get-in price of $189. Round out the top of the list is the Toronto Maple Leafs and Los Angeles Kings, who play on December 19th at the Air Canada Centre with an average ticket price of $216.96 with a get-in price of $59.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, the New York Islanders host the Florida Panthers at the Barclays Center on December 15th with an average price of $28 and a get-in price of $9 as the cheapest game of the week. This may come to a surprise, as the Islanders have surged into second place of the Metropolitan division and are 8-0-2 in their last 10 games. Out-of-town fans can see high quality hockey by booking a New York City flight through Hipmunk.com, in addition to book a Brooklyn hotel on Hipmunk starting from only $30.
