Martin Brodeur Signs With The St. Louis Blues

(Dec. 2, 2014) – St. Louis Blues President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today the club has signed goaltender Martin Brodeur to a one-year contract

Brodeur, 42, joins the Blues after a 21-season run with the New Jersey Devils, the team that originally drafted him first overall in 1990. During his career in New Jersey, Brodeur accumulated numerous awards and accolades, beginning with his first season, when he was awarded the 1994 Calder Trophy as Rookie of the Year. He went on to appear in 10 NHL All-Star Games and led the NHL in wins nine times, shutouts five times and games played six times, including appearing in 70 or more games in 10 consecutive seasons from 1997-98 to 2007-08 . Brodeur is a four-time Vezina Trophy winner (2003, 2004, 2007, 2008) and a five-time Jennings Trophy recipient (1997, 1998, 2003, 2004, 2010), while he has finished in the top five in Hart Trophy-voting seven times. He led the Devils to the Stanley Cup Finals five times, winning in 1995, 2000 and 2003.

Overall, the future Hall-of-Famer has compiled a 688-394-176 record to go along with a 2.24 goals against average, a .912 save percentage and 124 shutouts. He holds most major regular season NHL goaltending records, including most games played (1,259), most minutes played (74,083), most wins and most shutouts, while in postseason history, he ranks first in starts (204) and shutouts (24) and second in wins (113).

Internationally, the Montreal, Quebec, native is a three-time Olympian for Team Canada, earning a Gold Medal in both 2002 and 2010. He also garnered Silver Medals at the 1996 and 2005 World Championships.

Last season, Brodeur appeared in 39 games for the Devils, posting a 19-14-6, including a 2.51 goals against average, a .901 save percentage and three shutouts.
