Looking at Prices for 2016 NHL Playoff Tickets: Stars-Wild, Blues-Blackhawks Shine in Opening Round

More than eight months remain before Christmas Day, but for hockey fans across the globe, Sunday’s release of the 2016 NHL Playoff schedule was about as close to the real thing as possible. 16 teams will enter with dreams of Lord Stanley in mind, and only one will be left hoisting the Cup come June.

Before the action kicks off on Wednesday, fans hoping to catch all the action should know how much they’ll be paying for NHL Playoff tickets during the opening round of play. Below is a series-by-series price breakdown, according to data provided by TiqIQ:

Florida Panthers (A1) vs New York Islanders (WC1) | Series Avg: $204.93 | Cheapest Game in FLA: Game 1 ($64) | Cheapest Game in NY: Game 3 ($54)

Looking at the Eastern Conference bracket, the Atlantic-winning Florida Panthers will take on the New York Islanders, who control the first Wild Card spot. Over a potential seven games the average price for tickets is $204.93 on the secondary market, making it the second cheapest Eastern Conference series behind the Tampa Bay Lightning and Detroit Red Wings. Game 1 on Thursday will be the cheapest game at BB&T Center in Florida at a get-in price of $64 while Game 3 on Sunday is the least expensive game at Barclays Center with a $54 get-in price.

The Panthers and Islanders met three times this season. The Panthers took the first two games but led a two-goal lead dissipate during their last meeting in March, with the Islanders storming back to take a 3-2 victory at home.

Tampa Bay Lightning (A2) vs Detroit Red Wings (A3) | Series Avg: $153.01 | Cheapest Game in TB: Game 1 ($43) | Cheapest Game in DET: Games 3 ($61)

The Atlantic’s second and third seeds in the Tampa Bay Lightning and Detroit Red Wings will face off beginning Wednesday. At an average price of $151.01, their seven-game series will be the least expensive Eastern Conference Quarterfinals series and second cheapest overall behind the Anaheim Ducks and Nashville Predators. Game 1 in Tampa Bay will be the cheapest game with a get-in price of $43 while Game 3 is the least expensive in Detroit at $61.

The two teams split their four meetings this season. The Lightning won the last two games in February and March but will be without star players Steven Stamkos and Anton Stralman during the first round, which could prove too costly to overcome.

Washington Capitals (M1) vs Philadelphia Flyers (WC2) | Series Avg: $231.69 | Cheapest Game in WAS: Game 1 ($75) | Cheapest Game in PHI: Game 4 ($115)

The Presidents’ Trophy belongs to the Washington Capitals, and they’ll take on the second Wild Card winners in the Philadelphia Flyers in the Quarterfinals. The average price for tickets during the potential seven-game series is $231.69 on the secondary market, making it the most expensive Eastern Conference series during the opening round.

The Flyers took two of four games from the Capitals in extra time this season, winning by way of overtime in January and shootout in March. They will be no easy opponent for the Capitals, who briefly stumbled to the finish line over the last three weeks of play after going just 4-3-3 over their final 10 games.

Pittsburgh Penguins (M2) vs New York Rangers (M3) | Series Avg: $215.88 | Cheapest Game in PIT: Game 1 ($70) | Cheapest Game in NY: Game 3 ($200)

The red-hot Pittsburgh Penguins will face the New York Rangers in a Metropolitan battle during the first round of play. Over the possible seven-game stretch the average resale price for tickets is $215.88. Game 1 will be the cheapest game with a $70 get-in while the cheapest game in NYC comes in Game 3 at $200. Cheap hotels in NY are available, starting at $92.

Pittsburgh took three of four games over the Rangers this season, outlasting the Blueshirts in overtime in their final meeting in March. The Rangers won their sole game against the Penguins back in February.

Dallas Stars (C1) vs Minnesota Wild (WC2) | Series Avg: $262.52 | Cheapest Game in DAL: Game 1 ($90) | Cheapest Game in MIN: Game 4 ($124)

The Dallas Stars came out on top in the Central division and set to face the Minnesota Wild in the opening round. The average secondary market price for tickets during the series is $262.52, which makes it the most expensive series during the opening round of the playoffs. The cheapest game in Dallas will be Game 1 at a get-in price of $90. Xcel Energy Center will host its cheapest game during Game 4 at $124.

The Stars took four of five games from the Wild during the regular season, with three of those wins coming in overtime.

St. Louis Blues (C2) vs Chicago Blackhawks (C3) | Series Avg: $261.74 | Cheapest Game in STL: Game 1 ($82) | Cheapest Game in CHI: Game 4 ($153)

The Central division is jam-packed with overachieving teams this season, and the St. Louis Blues and defending champion Chicago Blackhawks will face off in one of the most intriguing matchups of the opening round. Over their series the average resale price for tickets is $261.74.

Those traveling to either St. Louis or Chicago can find the best deals on hotels on Hipmunk.com. Many options exist throughout the series, including an abundance of cheap hotels in Chicago to see the Blackhawks try their hand at a fourth Stanley Cup since 2010.

Anaheim Ducks (P1) vs Nashville Predators (WC1) | Series Avg: $150.18 | Cheapest Game in ANA: Game 1 ($49) | Cheapest Game in Nashville: Game 3 ($73)

The Pacific-leading Anaheim Ducks will take on the Nashville Predators in what will be the cheapest opening round series of the playoffs. The average resale price for tickets across the possible seven-game stretch is $150.18. Fans looking for tickets can find the cheapest for Game 1 in Anaheim at $49. Game 3 will be the cheapest game in Nashville at $73.

Nashville led the season series 2-1-0, though the two teams haven’t met since mid November.

Los Angeles Kings (P2) vs San Jose Sharks (P3) | Series Avg: $227.62 | Cheapest Game in LA: Game 1 ($88) | Cheapest Game in SJ: Game 4 ($60)

The Los Angeles Kings set to face the San Jose Sharks during the first round. Tickets currently average $227.62 on the secondary market, making it the second cheapest opening round series in the Western Conference. Game 1 is the cheapest game in Los Angeles at $88, but it will be Game 4 in San Jose that posts the cheapest tickets of the round at $60.

The Sharks took the season series 3-1-1 and won their last meeting with the Kings late last month.
