from Mike Zeisberger of the Toronto Sun,
Admittedly, Carlyle opened himself to second-guessing by individually identifying Reimer on a night in Motown when there were numerous candidates to be fitted for goat horns. And the same was true in the loss to Tampa Bay, a defeat in which there was plenty of blame to go around.
Take, for example, the Lightning’s second goal, a one-timer on the power play by Steven Stamkos from the left faceoff circle. The entire league knows that specific location is Stamkos’ office, the place he most frequently sets up in whenever the Lightning have the man advantage.
You can bet Carlyle and his coaching staff showed Leafs players video documenting that very thing. Yet, when it came to crunch time, the Leafs reacted by leaving the Lightning captain wide open.
In the end, that mistake is on the players. Such glaring errors simply can not happen on a team aiming to reach the post-season a second consecutive time.
