from Ed Willes of the Vancouver Province,
It has been just over a year since the NHL granted the Emerald City its 32nd franchise and while a dream team of owners and executives have created some noise with our neighbours to the south, the nameless, faceless operation is still more an idea than an actual team.
That idea will begin to take form and dimensions at some point in early 2020 when the team name and colours are announced, possibly as early as the Jan. 25 NHL All-Star game at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis. But that still leaves another 20 months before the puck drops at Key Arena, the team’s home that is in the midst of a modest billion-dollar facelift in downtown Seattle.
In the meantime, there is a void to fill and the team’s brain trust — CEO Tod Leiweke, COO Victor de Bonis, the longtime Canucks’ executive and others, many others — have been doling out enough of what passes for news to keep the market engaged.
