One last thought. Over the time I've been blogging, I've come across a number of letters to the editor sent to newspapers from fans of the WNBA. The complaint is always the same: Why don't you spend more resources to cover the league? It's unfair, and perhaps sexist that you don't. Isn't your newspaper obligated to cover the league? Those letters usually leave me shaking my head. No sport is entitled to any coverage at all. But once you've made your case, and it's clear that the media outlet of your choice isn't listening, what do you do next? You do what the folks at Women's Hoops did: Stop complaining, get off your duff and create the coverage yourself. If folks who love hockey want more coverage, they'll have to do the same. And I'd like to help make it happen. That is what I did. I have been asked this question numerous times, "Why did you start a website?" My answer has always been the same, I was frustrated with the lack of coverage the Detroit media was giving to the CBA lockout and took to the web to find as much information as I could. A buddy suggested I start a blog to keep others informed about the lockout, and the rest is history. With the amount of hockey blogs that now exist, only a very limited few will ever receive media credentials from a NHL team. Those that do, great, but continue doing what you do and don't feel you have to be PC because you now have credentials. Instead, find a unique angle and topic and cover it like it hasn't been before. Your readers will enjoy your work and it just may lead to something for you in the future-but if, and only if you want to go down that road. Believe me, it is a lot of hard work, dedication and more hard work. The rewards can be significant, but can also leave you stratching your head and asking yourself, Why did I ever start this darn blog". I leave you with this- The harder you work, the harder you HAVE to work. Why did I just do what I did?... I have been getting a huge number of emails in the last few weeks asking me how did I get "discovered" and thought by expressing my thoughts, people would have some of their questions answered.
