from Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun,
- Goalie Mike Smith, a UFA on July 5, is seeking $6 million per-season and has refused to sign a contract with the Coyotes. The decision by Detroit's Jimmy Howard to stay in Motown for a long-term deal means Smith will be one of the most valuable commodoties on the market. He'd be an option for the Flyers if they decide to buyout Ilya Bryzgalov. Another UFA teams will keep an eye on: Chicago goalie Ray Emery.
- Speaking of Bryzgalov, there's an internal debate going on in the Flyers front office about what to do with him next. The belief is owner Ed Snider thinks the Flyers need to give Bryzgalov another season and if it doesn't work out then the club can exercise its buyout next spring. There are some in management who have seen enough and have decided it's time to move on. Should be an interesting off-season.
