from Steve Conroy of the Boston Herald,
Bruins’ coach Bruce Cassidy, speaking from the team’s St. Louis hotel on Tuesday morning, had no update on Chara after the stalwart defender took a puck to the face during Monday night’s Game 4 in St. Louis. Multiple reports surfaced later Tuesday afternoon that Chara suffered a broken jaw and will have surgery. Christian Fauria of WEEI first reported that news. It was still unclear whether Chara will miss any game action.
Cassidy did not have an update on Matt Grzelcyk, concussed on an illegal hit from Oskar Sundqvist in Game 2, either.
But it sure sounded like there was the very real possibility that the B’s may have to suck it up one more time if they want the Cup.
“That’s what we need for two more games, maybe three if that’s the case,” said Cassidy. “But that’s what we need for a short period of time. If that’s the ask, then our players should be able to buy into that for a short period of time. It’s tough to say ‘We’re going to survive for a month.’ But we did that in November to keep our playoff hopes alive, then we got everyone back and we got rolling. I think our mindset will be fine in that regard, but you hate to lose a key player and your captain, you lose one of your leaders, so you lose some intangibles as well.”
The one thing the B’s shouldn’t be is panicked.
