Series Scenarios

* Teams that take a 1-0 lead in a best-of-seven hold an all-time series record of 495-224 (.688) including a 5-2 mark so far in the 2021 First Round.

* Teams that hold a 3-2 lead in a best-of-seven own an all-time series record of 328-87 (.790), including a 4-0 mark so far in 2021.

Did You Know?

* This is the 10th day in the NHL’s expansion era (since 1967-68) to include games from different rounds. Ironically, the only other instances in the last 47 years involved the two clubs opening the Second Round today – on April 27, 2016, the Islanders opened the Second Round while the First Round continued and on April 24, 1983, the Bruins ended the Division Finals hours before the Conference Finals began.

* The remaining seven dates in the expansion era to include games from different rounds all saw contests from both the Quarterfinals and Semifinals (April 18, 1968; April 10, 1969; April 13, 1969; April 18, 1971; April 16, 1972; April 12, 1973; and April 18, 1974).

Pre-game

* Toronto is 26-23 (.531) in Game 6 of best-of-seven series all time; Montreal is 34-27 (.557).

* When leading 3-2 in a best-of-seven, Toronto holds an all-time series record of 19-6 (.760). The Maple Leafs are 12-12 (.500) all-time in Game 7s.

* When trailing 3-2 in a best-of-seven, Montreal holds an all-time series record of 8-24 (.250). The Canadiens are 14-9 (.609) all-time in Game 7s.

* Montreal has forced Game 7 after facing a 3-1 series deficit on three occasions, including twice in the last 17 years (1954 SCF vs. DET, 2004 CQF vs. BOS & 2010 CQF vs. WSH) - the Canadiens won the series in 2004 and 2010.

* This is the sixth time Toronto has been involved in a Game 6 after holding a 3-1 series lead. They are 4-1 in the five previous series, including three they won in Game 6 (1942 Semifinals, 1945 Semifinals, 1945 Stanley Cup Final, 1947 Stanley Cup Final and 1987 Division Finals).

* Should Montreal win Saturday, it would set up the second all-time Game 7 between the 104-year rivals. The only Game 7 between the clubs to date came in the 1964 Semifinals when DaveKeon scored all three Maple Leafs goals in a 3-1 victory as Toronto took the winner-take-all showdown en route to hoisting the Stanley Cup. Keon’s hat trick was the second ever by an NHL player in a Game 7 (CarlLiscombe: 1945 SF w/ DET).

* WilliamNylander (4-3— 7 in 5 GP) will aim to find the score sheet for a sixth straight game. Only four Maple Leafs in the last 25 years have recorded a point streak of six or more games in one playoff year: MitchMarner (6 GP in 2018), BrianLeetch (6 GP in 2004), GaryRoberts (8 GP in 2002) and MatsSundin (6 GP in 2001).

* CareyPrice has an 8-6 record in 14 career games when facing elimination (2.28 GAA, .918 SV%, 2 SO). Only three active goaltenders have more career wins in that scenario: HenrikLundqvist (16-11 in 27 GP), BradenHoltby (9-7 in 16 GP) and JonathanQuick (9-5 in 14 GP).

* Two current Maple Leafs have scored a series-clinching goal: JoeThornton (Game 6 of 1999 CQF w/ BOS and Game 6 of 2011 CQF w/ SJS) and JohnTavares (Game 6 of 2016 R1 w/ NYI).

Pre-game

* The Bruins own a record of 56-50 (.528) in the first game of a best-of-seven series.

* The Islanders own a record of 24-23 (.510) in the first game of a best-of-seven series.

* In the previous two best-of-seven series between the two clubs, New York has won the first game of the series twice (1980 QF & 1983 CF).

* Tuukka Rask is set to face-off against the Islanders for the first time in the postseason, marking the 15th franchise he is playing in the Stanley Cup Playoffs in his career. He trails only Patrick Roy (20), Marc-Andre Fleury (19), Dominik Hasek (17), Curtis Joseph (16) and Martin Brodeur (16) for the most playoff opponents in NHL history. Fleury’s total above does not include Vegas, whom he would face if he plays in the Second Round.

* Ilya Sorokin has won each of his first four career playoff appearances, one of only 10 goaltenders in NHL history to achieve that feat – a list topped by Bruins great and Hockey Hall of Famer Tiny Thompson, who won each of his first seven career playoff games from 1929 to 1930.

* Barry Trotz (76-73 in 149 GC), who will face the Bruins in the postseason for the first time, needs one game to surpass PatBurns – Boston's head coach during the 1998 and 1999 playoffs – for sole possession of 11th place in Stanley Cup Playoffs history. Trotz also needs one win to surpass Peter Laviolette (76-72) for sole possession of 14th place in playoff history.
