The IIHF utilizes at least one video and one article per World Championship advancing their stances on particular parts of the game which they believe international hockey "does better" than the NHL, and today, they posted a six-minute video suggesting that fighting in hockey is an anachronism, using former NHL ref Dan Marouelli (now an IIHF employee) and former player Shane Hnidy (now a broadcaster) to play point-counterpoint:
In the IIHF, fighting yields getting kicked out of the game and a suspension for the next game, a la college hockey, and the IIHF plays the "concussion problem = fighting is an antiquated practice in North American hockey" concept. They certainly believe that there's a discussion in place as opposed to some sort of, "It's not complicated, here's what things should be" message, Marouelli gets the last word for a reason.
