There’s an exciting, entertaining, significant new hockey show in development that may turn out to be great for the game.

From Russia with Larianov opened this past weekend in Helsinki, Finland, and is headed to Edmonton for the International Ice Hockey Federation world junior championships for both 2021 and 2022.

Igor Larionov managed to get the attention of the hockey world at the Karjala Cup as the legendary Russian player took over as the coach of the Russian juniors with an intention to “play the way I want to play — an exciting game with more offence.

“The whole idea with the style I want to play with my U-20 team is to send the message across Russian hockey that offence is the way to succeed and, most important, to entertain fans.”

In the first international hockey event since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, Larionov’s team of talented teenagers that replaced the normal Russian entry and created an impact by beating all three teams of players from the pro leagues in Sweden, Finland and the Czech Republic. It was viewed by many in Europe that Russia as disrespecting the traditional tournament.
