The CBC's Hotstove Tonight crew dropped a gaggle of coaching scoops on Saturday evening, with Glenn Healy, Elliotte Friedman, P.J. Stock and Kevin Weekes stating that:
- The Edmonton Oilers will probably hire Dallas Eakins as their coach in no small part, according to Healy, that the Canucks' cap situation and on-the-move farm team affiliations scared Eakins off, and Patrick Roy heading to Colorado eliminated that option. As such, it's assumed that Eakins will captain the Oilers' youth movement;
- Healy stated that the NHL, NHLPA and IIHF are going to try to finalize their 2014 Olympic agreement next week, and they expect fireworks to ensue as contentious issues remain (everything from a piece of the monetary pie to medical and interview access);
- As Friedman put it, if the Penguins fire Dan Bylsma, he can "write his own ticket" as to wherever he wants to coach, be it Dallas, Vancouver, New York or elsewhere;
- Regarding those Rangers, they're going to talk to Alain Vigneault and Lindy Ruff, but the Messier situation is...Complicated.
