from Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun,
- If anything will chase Holland to premature retirement, it will be social media. He turns 68 in November. Don’t know how much longer he wants to be GM in Edmonton.
- There’s reason to wonder about the Leafs goaltending. There’s also reason to wonder about playoff goaltending in Colorado, Edmonton, Vegas, Carolina, Jersey, Boston, Pittsburgh, Los Angeles and Seattle. There aren’t a lot of Andrei Vasilevskiys or Igor Shesterkins out there;
- Can’t understand what the very talented Carolina Hurricanes did at deadline time. They picked up some hope in Shayne Gostisbehere and the rather-lost Jesse Puljujarvi. Not sure what the thinking was there.
- I don’t remember a time when the general managers in Pennsylvania, Ron Hextall in Pittsburgh, Chuck Fletcher in Philadelphia, were as universally unpopular as they are right now. Philadelphia and Pittsburgh are two of America’s great hockey cities. They don’t take to losing well.
- This is the third time a team hoping to win the Stanley Cup has said goodbye to Tyson Barrie. It has now happened in Colorado, Toronto and Edmonton. That’s not a coincidence
