Towns love winners, and playoff teams even more and the Predators have been one of the NHL’s most consistent franchises over the past 10 years, posting eight straight winning seasons with playoff appearances in seven of them. That success, through ownership changes, a canceled season, and public debate over the financial terms of the Bridgestone Arena, reflects the consistent leadership of coach Barry Trotz, the only head coach the team has had since its first season in 1999, and General Manager David Poile, who also has been the only GM in the franchise’s history. The owners’ commitment to those two is rare, but it has been rewarded with the Predators becoming the fourth most consistent franchise in the Western Conference behind the playoff perennial Detroit Red Wings, the Chicago Blackhawks (both of whom also play in Nashville’s Central Division, though Detroit will move to the Eastern Conference next season) and the Vancouver Canucks.
