Is there reason for Devils fans to be excited about their team now that the home opener is just hours away?

The players think so.

“Yeah. I think we have a good foundation here, starting with the back end,” goalie Cory Schneider said. “There are the young guys on the blue line and myself. Hopefully I’ll be here for a long time.

“I think it is something to look forward to. We made a couple nice additions up front. Cammi (Mike Cammalleri) has been hot at the start and we’ve needed every single one of his goals so far.

“We liked our team last year. We just didn’t quite get the breaks. I think we really feel we’re a better team and we’re better for having gone through what we did last year.”
