Four Of The Biggest Signings Of The UFA Period This Year

10/25/2020 at 8:05am EDT

It has been a surreal time in the world of sport, and hockey has been no different. However, all sports have continued to power through the current climate, and that means that there have been some huge moves during the free agency this summer. These are some of the biggest moves that have already taken place during the free agency in 2020.

Alex Pietrangelo

There was no bigger move during the UFA period than the piece of business that saw Alex Pietrangelo swap the St Louis Blues for the Vegas Golden Knights. The deal is reportedly worth $61.6 million and is a seven-year deal.

Pietrangelo’s move means that he has now ended his 12-year association with the Blues, where he won the Stanley Cup in 2019. The Golden Knights will be aware of the qualities that they are getting with the defensemen, as he has played in two NHL All-Star games, and has been named in the NHL Second All-Star Team for three seasons. The move will also ensure that the Golden Knights will be among the favourites in theUnibet NJ markets for Stanley Cup winners next season.

Torey Krug

The St Louis Blues wasted little time in making a move for a replacement for Pietrangelo, as they signed Torey Krug in a deal worth a reported $45.5 million over seven years. The 27-year-old recently posted an emotional message on social media thanking Bruins fans for their support throughout his time there, as he remains the highest-scoring American player in the history of the franchise.

He also made more history by becoming the first player to record four points in a finals game of the Stanley Cup back in 2019 in the Bruins defeat against the Blues.

Robin Lehner

The Vegas Golden Knights have also brought in a new goaltender during the free agency, as they signed Swedish stopper Robin Lehner.Lehner signed with the franchise for five years, and the deal is reportedly worth $25 million. The signing will certainly improve the Golden Knights defensively, as Lehner won the William M. Jennings Trophy in 2019 after conceding the fewest goals in the league.

Lehner is rightly regarded as one of the best goaltenders in the NHL, and he had a goals against average of 3.01 after 33 games for the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2019-20 season. Lehner has already impressed in the three games that he has played for the Golden Knights, as he has conceded just five goals.

Jacob Markstrom

Jacob Markstrom has also swapped the Vancouver Canucks for the Calgary Flames during the free agency, as he signed a six-year deal with his new franchise. The new is worth a reported $36 million.

Markstrom had been a consistent player for the Canucks throughout his seven-year stay. Last season, he played 43 times for the team and had a save percentage of .918. Furthermore, he allowed an average of just 2.75 goals against throughout the season. He could be set to play a huge role for the Flames next season as they look to build on their defeat in the First Round of the Stanley Cup in 2020.
