Flyers vs Ducks preview (01/18/23)

01/13/2023 at 11:04am EST

With the NHL season in full swing, the Philadelphia Flyers and the Anaheim Ducks are looking to kickstart some momentum as they both linger at the wrong end of their respective divisions. Today, we will break down the match between the pair and see if their game from early January could indicate how this one will end up.

With the number of NHL betting apps available online, finding one that works for you can be challenging. Finding out more about NHL betting apps is essential if you want to make the most of your wager.

Many betting apps will offer welcome bonuses or free bet offers if you open an account with them and play a real money wager.

Whether you're looking to place a bet on the Flyers or the Ducks, you will find ample markets tailored to your gambling needs.

The range of markets available across all sportsbooks has expanded massively over the last two decades – mainly due to the exponential rise in internet speed and the quality of the technology.

With such a wide selection of markets available, it can be easy to get drawn into the fun. Therefore, you must set your time and deposit limits to ensure you are gambling within a range you can afford.

If you start chasing losses or gambling starts having a negative impact on your relationships, you need to stop immediately and speak to a counselor specializing in problem gambling, before it becomes a severe issue.

Coming back to the NHL, neither team has provided any real challenge to the more prominent names this year. They're both a long way off the Bruins or the Knights, and they will be for quite some time, judging by this season.

Let's look at what the Flyers and the Ducks bring to the table. We will explore which players could make the difference in this match, and we will crunch the statistics and data to try and give you a prediction on how we think the game will develop and play out.

The Philadelphia Flyers

With both teams failing to make any serious dent in the league this season, the best barometer for how this game might pan out is the game between the pair that took place a couple of weeks ago.

The Flyers, based on the East Coast of the States, have looked livelier in their last few games. Many analysts have pointed out that the team has looked much more solid and their passing has been sharper.

They will look to take these consistent game features into their match against the Ducks. Having strung together several wins recently - the Flyers will want to continue that momentum.

It can be challenging to pick up momentum throughout a season if the writing is already on the wall. However, the Ducks are behaving like a team with something to play for, and their fans will be more hopeful, given how they have shaped up in their last few outings.

Kevin Hayes is a man in form, and the 6 foot 5, 220-pound center could be the key for the Flyers in their quest to win against the Ducks.

The Ducks will likely aim to keep him quiet but he is the Flyers’ talisman and commands a serious presence in the rink. Hayes will probably want to continue his recent sharp form against the NHL's poorest team.

If the Ducks can stop Hayes from controlling the puck and throwing his weight around, they could keep the fierce home support quiet enough to focus on their strategy.

Both the Flyers and the Ducks will be hoping next season's campaign provides more joy than this one. Alongside the Chicago Blackhawks and the Arizona Coyotes, they are considered some of the lowest-ranked teams in the NHL.

The Anaheim Ducks

The Flyers and the Ducks have something in common this season – they both languish on the lower rungs of their respective divisions. The Ducks currently carry the unwanted label of the Pacific Division’s worst performing team. They'll be keen to shake off this title as they head into this clash with the Flyers.

Travelling from the East Coast to the West Coast, they'll want to leave their current form back home before they step on the plane. One of the losses they have racked up recently has been to the Flyers, and it was a resounding defeat only a couple of weeks ago.

The Ducks will have to turn their fortunes around very quickly if they're going to pick something up on the road against a Flyers team that is beginning to find its form again.

Every team, from the Vegas Golden Knights to the Vancouver Canucks, seems to be outperforming the Ducks this season. Ultimately, they will want to make up some ground and try and move up the conference ladder.

Unfortunately, the season is too far gone for the Ducks to piece together a meaningful revival. Therefore, any real rally that could change their fortunes for this season is unlikely to occur.

We don't want to say anything bad about the Ducks, but it isn't easy to find anything good to say about them this season, to be honest. They have been disjointed and sloppy and it is no surprise that they're rooted to the bottom of the Pacific Division.

They need to get their act together quickly if they don't want a repeat of this season in their 2024 campaign.

Flyers vs Ducks – match prediction

The fact that the Ducks will have to surrender home advantage and travel to Philadelphia to face an in-form Flyers will be causing their fans some anxiety. Having struggled to string together any form or decent performance this year, they will be looking to have some kind of high point this season following a consistent stream of lows.

It is hard to see past the Flyers for this one. Having put together three wins themselves, they will be more than confident, given that they comprehensively defeated the Ducks in their backyard. Squaring up against them on home soil in this tussle should be one of the key factors that push them over the finishing line and get them the win.

It could be a case of saving face for the Ducks, and they won't want to lose further distance between themselves and every other team in the NHL. So, at the risk of turning into the league's cannon fodder, you would anticipate that there would be at least some kind of response from them.

Having put together a pair of consecutive wins after narrowly defeating the Sharks earlier this month, it looked like there could be some hope on the horizon. However, that was short-lived as the Boston Bruins trounced them 7-1 at home on their unstoppable march toward the Stanley Cup.

It's unfair to hold their loss to the Bruins against them too much, as it was a matchup between the league's best team and the worst team in the league.

As you have probably gathered, we think the Flyers will have enough to win this match – maybe not by the same margin as in the Ducks’ game against the Bruins, but definitely by enough to put the result beyond doubt.
