On if RFA Dougie Hamilton will be going after Doughty/Pietrangelo numbers:
“He could try, but he’s not at that level. I just can’t see him getting 7. I just don’t see it. Maybe he goes for a bridge. I don’t think he’s going to be in that kind of position.
“The biggest question this year is going to be do we see an offer sheet. The guy that everybody kind of talks about is Tarasenko. St. Louis is going to match whatever teams do. There’s no question about that.
“And if it’s Hamilton or if it’s Saad or if it’s Toffoli, teams will match that too. But you can wreak havoc in their roster and force them to do things a little bit differently.
“I look at Toffoli – Dean Lombardi said last week that obviously Toffoli is one of our first priorities. From what I can see, they’re not that close.
“So I think there’s a couple of guys here. I know these teams are loathe about doing offer sheets. This is where you kind of have an opportunity to do an offer sheet – not because you think you’re going to get a guy, but because you can take a look at one of your rivals and say, ‘We’re going to really screw you up here.’ And there’s the opportunity to do it and I think we’re all waiting to see if it ever even happens.”
