from Jeff Miller of the OC Register,
There’s a difference between a referee’s call being infuriating and being inaccurate.
The same goes for two referee’s calls…in the span of 76 seconds…of a one-goal hockey game…both of which nullify tying scores…in the final two minutes…for the home team.
And no matter how ticked the Ducks and their fans were Sunday night –Teemu Selanne reportedly was hot enough to melt not just the ice but also the puck – both calls have to be respected, if not embraced.
They also must be accepted, and even Randy Carlyle, who just 24 hours earlier had expressed similar displeasure by apparently unleashing a single-digit salute, had come to terms with the chaos that finally collapsed into a maddening 4-3 Ducks loss.
Just minutes afterward, the coach explained, “I don’t know if we were worthy” of tying the game late. Carlyle then lamented his team’s earlier mental mistakes, turnovers, “lax defensive zone coverage” and “penalty parade” of a second period.
