from Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic,
It is likely just for this season, the NHL making up these temporary divisions because of the border issue through the pandemic.
Or … is it?
“We recognize that, under the circumstances, this season’s divisional alignment has generated a great deal of interest and excitement,” NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said via email over the weekend. “We will evaluate the experience and try to determine what we might apply going forward.”
In the immortal words of Lloyd Christmas, so you’re telling me there’s a chance?
I still think it’s not likely the all-Canadian division sees past this season. Travel reasons alone would probably sink that idea.
However, what I do think might happen is that the NHL looks to provide more all-Canadian matchups within the matrix of a more unbalanced schedule. That much seems like a decent bet given the immense reaction to the all-Canadian division so far this season.
