from Brett Cyrgalis of the New York Post,
If the players of the NHL can’t get out of their own way for the sake of personal safety, then it’s unlikely that something like what’s about to be proposed would ever fly.
But it has become a farce trying to decipher injuries, the transparency of which varies from team to team depending on the ideology of the front office as handed down to the public relations staff. We have “upper-body” and “lower-body” injuries, and often, that’s it. We’re told it’s for the protection of the player so opponents don’t know what’s wrong.
First, let’s drop the act that people around the league don’t talk, or that players can’t see what’s wrong just by looking at how someone else carries himself or how he skates. To think it’s a secret is naive. And second, if that kind of information is known and is often targeted by opponents without the public’s knowledge, that’s a big problem.
