Cuba Gooding Jr. stole the show at the NHL Awards, and not in a good way

The NHL's Awards Show has always been a fine mix of awkward, cheesy, forced and occasionally funny, especially under Ron MacLean's tenure.

This year's show, which was tape-delayed in most of Canada (rather ironic given that it's probably the last hockey-related program the CBC will produce on its own), had its moments (PK Subban was as comfortable behind a microphone as you might imagine the "backstage reporter" could be), and while George Strombolopolous may have been given a dreadful format to work with, it was at least evident that Strombo wasn't going to make the show about him.

Instead of the self-referential and self-reverential Ron MacLean puns, Strombolopolous delivered some solid jokes, and even made a Milan Lucic handshake joke at the end of the awards that elicited the first literal laugh I've uttered in at least three Awards shows' worth of viewing (and I try very, very hard to accept the awkwardness for what it is).

The same can't be said of someone who is an earnest hockey-loving person (let's just say that the Kings' bandwagon was full in Las Vegas) in Cuba Gooding Jr. He was...Let's just say that this video, posted by CBS Sports' Brian Stubits, shows an...Enthusiastic...Gooding Jr. helping present the NHL Player Foundation award:

I was not impressed with this, per @myregularface and @corabbott on Twitter...

Or this, from Awful Announcing's Josh Gold-Smith, given that the young man he's "kicking" off the stage was a cancer survivor and a guest of Patrice Bergeron:

Less liquor before presenting, Cuba.
