While the number of coaching changes this season have been minimal, with only Columbus’ Todd Richards, Pittsburgh’s Mike Johnston and most recently Minnesota’s Mike Yeo given their walking papers, that doesn’t mean everybody is safe.
The future of some bench bosses will depend a lot on their playoff success, especially for Anaheim’s Bruce Boudreau and St. Louis’ Ken Hitchcock. And, you have to think at some point or another, New York Islanders’ coach Jack Capuano has to win a round in the playoffs. The two times the Isles have been to the playoffs under his guidance they’ve been knocked out in Round 1.
There are teams waiting to hire Boudreau if he gets fired by the Ducks and he nearly did after Anaheim was eliminated in Round 3 last year.
A general manager feeling the heat: San Jose’s Doug Wilson. The club is having regular-season success but that had better transfer into results in the playoffs sooner than later.
