from Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal,
If you’re an NHL coach of a non-playoff team, it might be an idea to throw your cell-phone away and maybe book an ocean cruise where nobody can get a hold of you.
Peter Horachek, bye-bye.
Ted Nolan, see you later.
Craig Berube, you’re on hold. Same with Todd McLellan. And maybe Claude Julien.
Quite possibly, Dave Tipppet in Arizona, isn’t up for a rebuild and wants out, too.
And, these are just the guys behind the benches of teams that didn’t make the post-season. Ken Hitchcock, you may have to go deep in the playoffs in St. Louis. And Bruce Boudreau in Anaheim, even with the second-most points in regular-season, you can’t afford to lose round one to the Jets. Mike Johnston in Pittsburgh? You may be a sacrificial lamb after just one season even though you have no Kris Letang, no Olli Maatta, no Christian Ehrhoff on defence.
The carnage has started, sort of like the NFL where coaches are routinely punted the day after the season ends.
