It’s hard to believe but this time last year placing a bet on a sports match could have landed you in trouble in many states across the USA. This was thanks to a law enacted in 1992, The Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA).
This legislation governed how sports betting was to be handled in all but two states in America for the next 26 years. The only states exempt were Oregon and Montana because these states already had laws in place governing the practice.
