Mighty Ducks general manager Brian Burke wanted to make a bold statement, one that would tell everyone the club is serious about landing a Stanley Cup playoff berth this season.... "We're aware people will look at this and say it's not an upgrade on defense," Burke said. "If you do the math, with one NHL player coming in on the blue line and two going, if you break it down on that simple level, it looks like subtraction. We made the decision it's not that simple. "If we were dumping (salary) and not trying to make the playoffs, we would have done very different deals."
