from Fluto Shinzawa of the Boston Globe,
Nice to see Matt Hunwick playing big minutes and serving as an alternate captain in Toronto. The ex-Bruin did not find traction with the Rangers or Avalanche, two previous stops. In his Leafs debut, Hunwick, playing alongside Dion Phaneuf, was on the ice for 20:28. He averaged 15:48 of ice time for the Rangers last season . . . Alex Galchenyuk looks comfortable so far moving from left wing to center. He’s been moving well, protecting the puck, and processing his moves without hesitation. Galchenyuk has the stuff to be a future top-line pivot . . . Dylan Strome (Arizona), Pavel Zacha (New Jersey), and William Nylander (Toronto) were among the final cuts for their respective teams. For Strome and Zacha, who were sent back to junior, it didn’t make sense to initiate the first year of their entry-level contracts. Neither the Coyotes nor Devils project to push for the playoffs . . . The Kings and Sharks meet again Oct. 22. Milan Lucic could be seeking revenge on Logan Couture for his late-game, out-of-penalty-box check that toppled the ex-Bruin in the season opener. Couture would be best served asking his equipment staff about additional below-the-belt protection.
