Speaking on his daily segment on TSN 1200 Thursday morning, former NHL executive Pierre McGuire indicated there’s been no shortage of discussion around the league about goalie movement.
“There’s been a lot of phone activity … significant phone activity,” McGuire said. “People are going to try to drive their own bargains. If they have a need for a goalie, they’re going to try to go out and get a goalie.”...
Not only are either Matt Murray or Tristan Jarry of the Pittsburgh Penguins available, the decision by the Arizona Coyotes to part ways with general manager John Chayka means the club may move Antti Raanta or Darcy Kuemper.
Of course, the New York Rangers wouldn’t mind dealing veteran Henrik Lundqvist’s contract while the Carolina Hurricanes have been dangling either Petr Mrazek or James Reimer.
Amongst the unrestricted free agents are Robin Lehner of the Vegas Golden Knights and Washington Capitals’ netminder Braden Holtby along with Chicago’s Corey Crawford. Many don’t believe Crawford is going anywhere and he’ll stay put in Chicago.
If that’s not enough names, there’s also Anton Khudobin of Dallas, Detroit’s Jimmy Howard, Edmonton’s Mike Smith and Jacob Markstrom of the Vancouver Canucks. Given the Canucks run in the playoffs, the club needs to do everything in its power to keep Markstrom from going to market.
