Is it San Jose, maybe New Jersey or possibly Minnesota?
Or will one of the top teams right now win the Cup?
The top four teams today are Washington, Boston, St. Louis and the New York Islanders.
Feel better picking one of them, if so, remember the Blues were in last place with 4 months left in the regular season.
What I am trying to say is it is way too early to pick a favorite for the Stanley Cup.
This early in the season, with the standings still at a log jam, teams need to start separating from the pack.
If two or three of these teams do such that, well, they become the favorite to take it all in mid-June.
We all know a key injury, a sub par performance or just a slump, can cause a team to spiral quickly.
On the other hand, a team trying to get in the playoff picture could suddenly get hot, make a trade to improve their position or just start winning on a consistent basis.
It has happened before, just ask the Blues.
I don't believe anyone had the Blues doing what they did at this time last season. But they did and who is to say it can happen again this season?
Will it be considered a surprise if a team way down in the standings at this point, comes back and wins the Cup again?
I would say the odds are against it, but we know in hockey, expect the unexpected.
No matter your thinking on this topic, my advice is to enjoy every game you can, it is hockey, our sport and there is nothing better.
