from Jeff Neiburg of Frequent Flyers at the Philadelphia Daily News,
It was only Game 2 of 82, but the doors to the Flyers’ locker room remained closed a little longer than usual after Saturday night's game, following the 7-1 embarrassing loss to the Florida Panthers.
Coach Dave Hakstol wasn’t in the dressing room, it was just the players.
“If it’s game two and you lose, 7-1," defenseman Mark Streit said, "I think you better have a little talk here, no?”
“We just had a little chat amongst ourselves,” said defenseman Luke Schenn, who was minus-3 on the night.
The Flyers dug themselves a 4-0 hole early as the Panthers took advantage of a few mistakes by Flyers goalie Steve Mason and turned eight shots into four goals in less than seven minutes. Mason called it the worst performance of his eight-year NHL career.
“There’s nobody to put this game on except myself and I take full responsibility for the outcome of this game,” Mason said. “When your starting goaltender performs like that it puts everyone behind the eight-ball right away.”
