A Night For The Underdogs

11/03/2014 at 10:42am EST

from Craig Custance of ESPN,

We loved this note on Twitter on Sunday night from Lightning digital media guru Andrew DeWitt: A $100 parlay bet on the Sabres, Flames, Coyotes and Hurricanes to all win on Sunday would have paid off $5,755. Somehow, all four of those teams managed to win, once again proving that on any given night in the NHL, any team can win.

That said, it seems like the parity that NHL commissioner Gary Bettman loves so much isn't quite as widespread as it has been in the past. We'll blame Connor McDavid for that.

But it was good to see Carolina win again for new coach Bill Peters, who has been dealt an ugly hand at the start of his head-coaching career. If there was any doubt he came from the Mike Babcock coaching tree, it was erased when he once again sat Alexander Semin in favor of a lineup he called honest and hard-working. The wins may not be plentiful early on in Carolina, but that doesn't mean messages can't be sent and received.

read on for Burnside on the Flames, Strange on the Canes and LeBrun on the Jets.
