from Mike Zeisberger of the Toronto Sun,
In completing Babcock’s opening month as Leafs coach with a dismal 1-7-2 record, the Leafs have scored just 20 goals in 10 games. To that end, in back-to-back losses to the Rangers and Penguins Friday and Saturday, they found the back of the opposition net only once in 120 minutes of hockey.
In the process, the Leafs have turned in their poorest start to a season since the shipwreck of 2009-10. During that stumble out of the gates, the Leafs went 0-7-1 before winning their first game. That year, Ron Wilson’s crew went 1-7-5 before posting their second victory of the season.
Babcock has made no secret that there would be growing pains here. We’re just not sure he expected them to be this excruciating.
“The buck stops here,” Babcock said, pointing at his chest. “I’m responsible.”
