BUFFALO, N.Y. (April 20, 2017) --- Buffalo Sabres Owner Terry Pegula has issued the following statement:
“After reviewing the past season and looking at the future of our organization, Kim and I have decided to relieve General Manager Tim Murray and Head Coach Dan Bylsma of their duties. We want to thank Tim and Dan for their hard work and efforts that they have put in during their tenures with the club. We wish them luck. We have begun the process to fill these positions immediately.”

Guess this puts to which side circulated the Eichel quote. Pegula heard you loud and clear Jack.

Jack Eichel is now a coach killer.
Have fun with that.

Absolutely.
It can’t be spun as a coincidence. It’s one of the two scenarios I stated before Eichel’s side leaked it, then publicly denied it but the Sabres’ side knew THEY didn’t leak it, so that it had to be coming from Eichel’s camp.
Holy crap. Have fun with that, BUF.

Buffalo may have better talent, but with meddling ownership, I don’t believe they are in any better position than the Wings At this point in time. Also, if (if ??) Eichel had a hand in this…I wouldn’t want to build my team around a guy like that.

What’s worse, meddling ownership or ownership that literally doesn’t give one good damn about the team it owns?

Well, right now they don’t have a coach which already puts them a rung above the Red Wings.

Pegula as an owner is kinda’ a disaster. He’s similarly got a mess of a team in the NFL with the Buffalo Bills.
He may be a hero in Penn State to bring them D1 hockey…. but that sure looks like where his sports successes will end.

This sure isn’t going to diminish Eichel’s swelled sense of his own importance. As for Pegula, we’ve had a semi-meddling owner in Vancouver the past few years, and it hasn’t been pretty - but it’s never gone this far. Don’t the Sabres have a team president to do this stuff? or does Pegula just like the ego rush?

”...He was the fourth coach to join the team since Pegula bought the franchise in 2011. (Lindy Ruff, Ron Rolston, and Ted Nolan were the others.)...”
The above quote taken from. Sportsnet website
Preparing to hire his 5th coach in 7 years of ownership….
That’s one way to run a franchise

They should sign Dean Lombardi ASAP.

you know, between him and Sutter, the team was really stuck in the big and brawny mindset. that’s half bad out here…but in the East, he’d def need to do a reset and focus on speed. not that it’s rocket science or anything

Lombardi put together a pretty good team in the San Jose Sharks before he went to the Kings. It would be hard to find a better GM.

You can replace the coach and GM much more easily than you can find top-tier forwards, let alone those that project as long-term stars. People can call Eichel a “coach killer” all they want, and it may even be true, but faced with the choice of of building around a rare talent or building around almost any coach, I think the right selection is obvious.

Ha! I was thinking the exact same thing!

Buffalo had a decent coach and GM, and looked like they were starting to move in the right direction. If it weren’t for the whole thing surrounding Eichel, I would be shocked by this development.

I disliked Eichel’s attitude even before the draft. Now the Sabres have Kane and Eichel. Good luck hiring the next Eichel scap goat(s).
