Buffalo Sabres defenseman Tyler Myers could face a suspension or fine for his hit to the head of Devils left wing Dainius Zubrus in tonight’s game at First Niagara Center.
The NHL’s Department is in the process of taking a closer look at the hit tonight and we should hear something Sunday about whether Myers will have a hearing. The Sabres don’t play again until Tuesday, so there is no need to rush to make a ruling.
Myers received a two-minute minor for an illegal check to the head on the hit, which came 7:02 into the third period of the Sabres’ 2-1 win. Myers appears to make contact with Zubrus’ head with his upper arm.
Devils coach Pete DeBoer thought it was worth of a five-minute major. Zubrus, who said he was “OK” after game, said, “I haven’t seen the replay, so, honestly, I can’t comment much.”
