Drew Doughty Will Hit 1000 Games Played Tonight

LOS ANGELES (Jan. 27, 2022) – LA Kings defenseman Drew Doughty will play in his 1,000th regular-season game tonight at UBS Arena against the New York Islanders. He will become the 359th player in NHL history to reach the league-recognized milestone.

A two-time Stanley Cup champion, Doughty will be the 12th player to skate in at least 1,000 games with one franchise and miss fewer than 40 games from his first to his 1,000th. He will be just the fifth player in franchise history to appear in 1,000 NHL games with the team and the 24th player to accomplish the feat in a Kings uniform. He also will be the 58th player to have played for the Kings to reach the milestone.

Now in his 14th NHL season, all with the Kings, Doughty enters tonight’s game with 557 career points (129-428=557) in 999 career regular-season games. Among franchise defensemen, Doughty leads in games played, assists and points. Overall, he ranks seventh in assists and ninth in points.

He has also skated in 84 career NHL playoff games and played an integral role in helping the Kings win the Stanley Cup in 2012 and 2014. During the 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs, he led all defensemen in assists and points and ranked tied for first in goals (4-12=16). He also led the Kings with 26:09 TOI/GP and ranked second in the league (min.15 games). In 2014, he again led all defensemen in points while ranking tied for first in assists and tied for second in goals (5-13=18). He also led all defensemen with 28:45 TOI/GP (min. 15 games).

Among his accolades the London, Ontario native has won a Norris Trophy (2015-16), earned First-Team All-Star honors twice (2015-16, 2017-18), been a Second-Team All-Star on two occasions (2009-10, 2014-15) and named to the NHL All-Rookie First-Team (2008-09). Internationally, he has won two Gold Medals with Team Canada (2010, 2014), won an IIHF World Junior Championship Gold Medal (2008) and a World Cup of Hockey Gold Medal (2016).

The Kings are scheduled to honor Doughty in a pregame ceremony at Crypto.com Arena on Tuesday, February 15, when the Kings face the Edmonton Oilers. The celebration will be broadcast live on Bally Sports West prior to the game.
