Arizona Trades Jamie McGinn To Florida For Jason Demers

GLENDALE, ARIZONA - Arizona Coyotes President of Hockey Operations and General Manager John Chayka announced today that the Coyotes have acquired defenseman Jason Demers from the Florida Panthers in exchange for forward Jamie McGinn.

"We are very pleased to add Jason to our blueline corps," said Coyotes President of Hockey Operations and General Manager John Chayka. "Jason is a skilled right-handed shot defenseman who moves the puck well and has good offensive ability. He will be a great addition to our team."

The 6-foot, 201-pound Demers registered 9-19-28 and 53 penalty minutes (PIM) in 81 games with the Panthers last season. He ranked second among Florida defensemen in points and goals and his nine goals were a career-high. Demers also finished with 106 hits which was tied for the most hits among team blueliners and finished third on the team with 90 blocked shots.

The 29-year old native of Dorval, QC has recorded 37-134-171 and 307 PIM in 504 career NHL games with the San Jose Sharks, Dallas Stars and Panthers. The veteran defenseman has also totaled 3-9-12 and 40 PIM in 52 playoff games.

Demers was originally selected in the seventh round (186th overall) by San Jose in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

McGinn collected 9-8-17 and 23 PIM in 72 games with the Coyotes.

No surprise, Tallon was not a fan of Jason Demers, overpaid for what you get and Panthers have a couple good young defensemen ready to play for the big club. Jason Demers got a lot of goals but wasn’t great defensively, that said last season no one was great defensively.
