Allegation Against Bill Peters

Akim Aliu tweets below. He is a UFA and 30 years old.

added below, Brad Treliving addresses the media after Monday's Calgary game.

Also, the alleged events too place when Bill Peters was in the Chicago organization.

added 11:51am 11/26/19, Chicago Blackhawsk response is below.

via tht Twitter account of Akim Aliu,

Not very surprising the things we’re hearing about Babcock. Apple doesn’t fall far from the Tree, same sort of deal with his protege in YYC. Dropped the N bomb several times towards me in the dressing room in my rookie year because he didn’t like my choice of music. First one to

admit I rebelled against him. Wouldn’t you? And instead of remedying the situation, he wrote a letter to John McDonough and Stan Bowman to have me sent down to the ECHL. 20 year old on pace for 20 goals in his first pro year with zero PP/PK time was off  to a great start in his

Pro career

The longer players and staff “keep it in the room,” the longer this crap (and it IS crap) goes on. Hockey is still a workplace. F this stuff and anyone who supports it.

I think were starting to see why they dont allow players and coaches off script when talking to media.

If Don Cherry got fired for “you people” .....  this is exactly true honest racism.  That felt Ok saying it to the player.  What’s that say about the culture?  But, Don Cherry.

It says nothing about the culture because no one knows if this is actually true.
If Peters did say that to the player in the locker room, this should be a pretty quick investigation as there were 30 other people in that locker room. And I doubt anyone would forget something like that.

As far as Don Cherry goes, he is an old bigoted fool who should have been off the air a long time ago. He has said things far worse, than “you people”

Yeah, all those people coming out of the woodwork when he was fired about calling them racist names right?

And I’m going to go out on a limb and say, to your point, it’s too easy to verify or not that someone wouldn’t take to Twitter with a public declaration of this type because he decided to wake up and bold face lie about a guy he played for 10 years ago.

No, you think a person would wake up and try to get a coach he played for fired with false allegation of racial slurs from 10 years ago, because he saw another the coach this one knows do some messed up list?

If that makes sense to you, or you think it’s got an even 50 percent shot of being true, I feel sorry you.

Nope, I said I don’t know what happened, I wasn’t there. Try taking some reading comprehension lessons. I feel sorry for you.

Personally I am waiting to hear from the Flames today.

Plus I would like to hear from the Blackhawks with their view on this plus actually hearing from the player would help too.

Serious allegations at this point but not much else to go on except that.

Seems like the culture around teams has been to not blab about this stuff, ever. Marner didn’t come forward with the Babs stuff first, someone else did. It supposedly happened in Detroit too, and we’ve never heard a peep.

The guy who says he experienced racism? Same deal, he waited until he was basically out of pro hockey to talk. All of these episodes suggest to me that players very much still do keep this stuff in the room for (very real) fear of backlash. Anyone who doesn’t think a coach can ruin a rank and file guy’s career is crazy.

Point is, this stuff needs to come out of the game, and staying quiet doesn’t help. These revelations

Waiting to hear what the flames have to say about what happened in the minors 1p years ago on another team.  Cool.  Makes sense.

And aim sure the team investigating doesn’t have anything to lose if there is in fact a culture of racism and will tell the whole truth, because again, nothing to lose. I’m sure other successful players will come out and rock the boats in their locker rooms to give their side of the story, especially if the unbiased investigating team decides it never happened.

So yeah, let’s wait for these people to investigate themselves and decide they aren’t racist.

TG, what Bill Peters says about this is the key.  It can go 2 ways, he says he did it and apologizes for it, then the Flames have a decision to make.

He can also say no, that is not the way it happened and go in to details.

No matter which way this goes, it won’t be dropped quickly.  These days people only want the hear the result they want to hear.

All I know the Flames have an issue to deal with and it will not be over quickly.  They certainly do not want this while worrying about the next game.

Red Winger, I am keeping an eye on it.  Discussion, disagreement is fine, but attacks against other KK members is frowned up.  It is up to all members to decide which way they want to go.

Eric Francis tweet,

Having touched base with Flames GM Brad Treliving and Akim Aliu this morning I can report the two had a conversation regarding the latter’s racism allegation leveled at coach Bill Peters. You can bet the Flames investigation into this will be thorough.

Posted by Paul from Motown Area on 11/26/19 at 09:37 AM ET

Avatar

Sure.  He can deny it and the team can work its PR and see if the consumers are going to be affected by it or not.  Probably drag it out for a few months of investigating and all of a sudden hockey media will go dark on it out of journalistic integrity of not wanting to say something without knowing the whole story, and itll fizzle out.  Highly doubt he cops to it if he did do it.

I know exactly how the conversation went down cause I’ve heard 100 old white guys say the same thing, like it’s a script. And even if you’re mocking what they say in the song, you cant do that disparagingly and you cant do that at your place of employment.  Unless everyone else is on board that is.

Yeah, there’s really no context here where a coach saying the N-word is acceptable. And I seriously doubt Akim would be lying about hearing Peters use that word. I don’t know if it’s enough to trigger a firing, but coupled with the Flames recent performance, I could see it resulting in one.

False allegations happen.

Duke Lacrosse team. Even at EMU, someone spray pained some ugly stuff. Student protests, people saying some nasty stuff about the school.
Guess what? Wasnt a white dude who did it.

And dare I mention Juicy Smollett?

A quick google search shows that, while they may be infrequent, false allegations happen. And in juicy’s case, for potential gain.

Matthew Sekeres tweet,

Flames are, for my money, one of the best PR teams in the league. This was a mistake.

If he didn’t use the word, Peters should’ve proclaimed that at first opportunity. This was it. Now it seems like he has something to hide.

Both those instances were only them and the accused.  That’s A typical for false allegations.  We dont have the a typical indicators here, like even a rebuttal from Peter’s outright that he didn’t say it. That’s usually universal, a denial.

Glad no ones giving you the codes to the nukes

I don’t think he’s making the case that this is a false allegation because the others mentioned turned out to be, just that maybe we should put down the pitchforks and quiet the mob until additional information is gathered. Racism happens. False allegations happen. We’ve heard one side of a story, let the investigation take place.

In jackson, MI someone burned their house down and said its because of their orientation. Turns out, it was probably the home owner that did it.

Also the issue in georgia with the lawmaker who said she was berated by a customer at a grocery store. Claimed it was some horrible verbal attack on instagram (of all places) and based on the evidence, the lawmaker spun it worse than just an argument.

False accusations can happen.

Investigation from an unbiased third party right?  Peter’s hasn’t even denied it, a full day later.  You could ask me at any point in time, “did you say the Nword?”  And itd be an easy and immediate, nope.

So, being as we dont have that,  the investigation can only prove in what context he said it. In my mind and to Hockey Freaks point, there’s no good reason.

more than one thing can be true:

- false accusations happen
- peters hasn’t denied this yet
- nobody knows if this happened or not

the problem people aren’t considering is that, again, this “keep it in the room” mentality may mean the truth never will come out or people will believe what lever they want and ignore the evidence. that’s what I’m criticizing, so far.

All this back and forth and criticism about Peters, the Flames, how these organizations are handling this situation…etc.  Yet these personal attacks and crap from Chardee continue to go on here.  Peters has an issue right now, but this site has its own issue and it never gets taken care of.  That’s my take away from this whole thing.
