Afternoon Line- Gare Joyce On Steve Yzerman And The Tampa Bay Lightning

Yzerman went all in to win this season. He had done enough right for Tampa Bay to take a run at the Stanley Cup again this spring, but enough wrong that if Stamkos had carried the Cup on a lap of the rink, it might still have been the last time he’d ever wear a Lightning sweater. But now, through a couple of unforeseeable bad breaks, Yzerman has busted out. His team will need a miracle every other night for two months to play for the Cup. And if winning can’t fix everything, neither will such a disappointing, desultory end.

That’s the first time I’ve heard Bowman putting Fedorov on defence described as a smack down. Anyone else remember hearing it that way?

Sergei was a unique player that could play great at forward and great at DMan. One of a kind, likely not going to see another Fedorov soon!

This is a great read. I’ve said it before, that Yzerman **may** be fired if they lose in the 1st round AND stamkos goes to another team… Just saying.

As long as Detroit doesn’t hire him.  I’d prefer not to have a GM who does everything he can to alienate his best players.

That’s ridiculous, Garth.

Really interesting article.  Possibly some real answers about what is going on in Tampa.  Ego is a strong and sometimes strange thing.  Too many people have such fragile egos that manifest themselves in hyper-egotism.  Concerning Sergei, really who knows what games Scotty played with players?  Was it reported that way (knocking Sergei down to size)..no.  But who knows other than Scotty.  Also Jacques Demers had a stroke.  I pray for a speedy recovery.
