Split 'em Up, Mike...That Solves Every Woe

10/26/2013 at 5:43pm EDT

There is no problem in Mike Babcock's life that can't be cured by splitting up Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk. Hair, hunting, Fresca shortages: split them up because it always works.

Split them up because Franzen hasn't scored in five years. Weiss has zero assists. Charlie Buckets: one goal. Split them up because that's what we do. Every year. Several times. It's the solve-all.

Mike Babcock is a strong man and we love him in a way that doesn't involve any sort of physical contact. But, man, if that's the only solution...why are we paying assistant coaches? Why does Babcock even own a white board? If splitting them up is the best we've got in terms of creative solutions to a team that can't score? Shit, man. Just play Words with Friends and call it a night. Just pick names out of a hat and toss them out there.

Ten games in and life is looking mediocre.

I told you I was nervous at the beginning of the year because I'm not convinced the Weiss/Alfredsson thing is going to work. Oh, it probably will but not right away. Some genius commented on an MLive story that he thinks it's a "chemistry issue", because all of us are so astute we can see a chemistry issue when it exists. That's just dumb, but it does have a little credence when you consider that ten regular season games may not be enough time for the two new guys to get acclimated to the Wing Way.

So in march the Rangers with Nash and Richards and they can't score either.

It's a Live Blog, bitches. And it's Saturday. Drink up and celebrate the New Plan to split up hockey's two best players.

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
