via Brian Hedger at NHL.com,

Season series: After beating the Detroit Red Wings in the first game, the New York Islanders have won five straight at Joe Louis Arena. They are 8-1-1 against the Red Wings since 2005-06 and haven't lost in Detroit since the 2002-03 season. Forwards Brock Nelson and Anders Lee each scored a goal and had an assist to lead the Islanders in the first game.

Islanders team scope: New York is coming off a rare loss at Nassau Coliseum, where the Islanders are now 17-5-0 following a 5-2 defeat against the Boston Bruins on Thursday. It was New York's first loss on home ice since Dec. 23. Center John Tavares scored in the second period, his 23rd goal, and extend his goal-scoring streak to four straight games. Tavares has points in five straight games (four goals, five assists). Center Casey Cizikas missed practice Friday and forward Colin McDonald was recalled on emergency basis from Bridgeport of the American Hockey League. Coach John Capuano said Cizikas needed a maintenance day and will make the trip to Detroit. Defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky (upper body) is day-to-day. He practiced and could play. Capuano said his lineup will be determined Saturday, including his starting goalie.

Red Wings team scope: A six-game win streak for Detroit came to a crashing halt at the hands of the Tampa Bay Lightning at Amalie Arena on Thursday. The Lightning won 5-1 to move back into first place in the Atlantic Division, and the Red Wings (65 points) dropped behind the Montreal Canadiens (65 points) to third based on games played. General manager Ken Holland made a couple of transactions before practice Friday. Defenseman Brian Lashoff was placed on waivers, rookie defenseman Xavier Ouellet was sent to Grand Rapids of the AHL and rookie defenseman Alexey Marchenko was recalled from Grand Rapids to take his place. Goalie Petr Mrazek will get the start, despite allowing all five goals against Tampa Bay and getting pulled after the second period.

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
