Big day today. Michigan wins the Big Ten tournament in dramatic fashion after an airplane "crash" three days ago. The Lions steal Green Bay's best offensive lineman.
And the Detroit Red Wings play a meaningless mid-March game against the New York Rangers.
I remember when the Wings used to win tournaments in dramatic fashion. I remember tournaments in '97 and '98 and a few more four and ten years later. Heck, I even remember tough tournament losses to teams like Anaheim and Denver. I don't recall any losses to St. Louis but I'll keep thinking on it and get back to you.
I also remember how warm I used to feel when the Wings would sign top-name free agents.
Lately, those big names don't come to Detroit and sometimes when they don't we'll hear the murmurs about the city of Detroit and how people don't want to live and work and play and frolic there.
But, then a guy like TJ Lang signs with the Lions, and you start to wonder.
You wonder because he's got a family and he said where his kids go to school and the environment in which that family lives was a huge matter of importance to him.
So, he chose Detroit.
Over Seattle.
See where I'm going with this? Don't blame the city, although that is harder to do because from what I can see and read, Detroit is on the upswing.
Blame the organization and if you're blaming the organization, blame Ken Holland.
I'd like to see him fired.
It's a Live Blog, bitches.
LGRW, Go Blue, good job to a real GM in Bob Quinn and for the love of the swaddled, drooling, cooing, 8 pound baby Jesus, FKH ASAP.
