They’ll likely keep one in their back pocket for a goalie move. That leaves one more call-up, with Svechnikov likely on his way with Frans Nielsen out according to one source. It would ultimately be a missed opportunity to get Hicketts more NHL playing time or even give Hronek a taste of what the next level looks like.

There are emergency call-ups, injuries and things that can change in a hurry in professional hockey. But as it’s playing out now, the young defensemen in the organization appear to be stuck in their current positions for the remainder of the year.
