Smith has been out all season with a lower-body injury.  The Bolts put him on waivers yesterday.

What’s the idea here, more experience in GR?

Wouldn’t he have to be put on waivers again (and clear this time) before going to GR?

And TB basically can’t afford to pay a league min contract if he’s not on the ice and went the waiver route instead, interesting.

Yzerman likeable, cheap center, history shows goalscoring in AHL, playmaker.  Put him between Vrana and Zadina

This probably means Veleno will be on his way down to GR soon.

Which will be best for him. It’s not doing him any good playing 10-12 mins with Smith/Gagner

So Yzerman adds a veteran to block/take a roster spots from a kid, interesting, I think I’ve seen moves like this before somewhere.

To counter, if the kids aren’t ready, perhaps this is the right move. Perhaps this is insurance. Maybe this is just a move that’ll light some fire under the butts of the kids who are close to that “getting demoted” threshold.

Trust me when I say that I understand where you’re coming from. However, this isn’t Ken Holland. If Stevie is taking this guy, he clearly has a plan, and we’re just gonna have to wait and see.

One more Smith and we could have an All Smith thugs line on the Taxi squad.

If Veleno loses a spot in the NHL with this move, it is a head scratcher

A Thug Line? Interesting word choice. What makes the Smith brothers thugs? Nevermind, dont amswer that.

If they both ever play in the same game together, I wonder how their lettering will look like on their jerseys.

G. Smith might not work for both of them.

maybe Gi. Smith and Ge. Smith?

Gemel wears #46 and Giovanni wears #48

He has to be on the NHL roster for 30 days, if I am not mistaken. After those 30 days, we could have Vrana and Stephens back.

Veleno and Berggren are not meant to be mainstays on the roster this year, it appears/IMO

Equating Holland and Yzerman because they both sign too many fourth-line veterans is like equating Larry Murphy and Jonathan Ericsson because neither of them skate very fast. Murphy had flaws but more than made up for them in other aspects of his game. Ericsson not so much.
