JaStaal signs pro contract

At noon on Friday, the Hurricanes announced that they’ve signed newly acquired right wing Jared Staal to a three-year entry level contract.  He was acquired via trade with Phoenix on Thursday afternoon and it didn’t take long to get him committed to a minimum wage contract.  The standard two-way rookie contract will pay him $500k at the NHL level in 2010-11 and $525k in each of the following two seasons.  At the AHL level, he’ll be paid $50k in all three seasons.  The contract also features a signing bonus of $150k.

The youngest Staal brother was almost always paired with the eldest Eric in their backyard games in Thunder Bay.  EStaal chatted with Raleigh’s 99.9 FM about the acquisition, giving us a little insight about JaStaal.

Jared will be at training camp this summer and will play in the rookie tournament in Traverse City.  After that, he’ll end up in Charlotte for at least one season.
