Petshark: Talking Stick

6: too many

6: too many men on the ice

6: too many goals to score

6: too many games to win in a row.

Three sixes on Halloween just can’t be good.  I think I can come up with a couple more.  Couture and Pavelski both made it to six game point streaks.  The Sharks took six penalties, if you count Clowe’s fighting major.  In this case, I don’t see any reason not to.  That’s six sixes.  This is not helping.

@KKurzCSN: Thornton: “To be honest, they were probably the softest team we played against on this road trip, and we should have had these two points.”

Well, that explains a lot, like the sluggish start and the failure to finish.  No “tired” excuse tonight.  I don’t care how “soft” people think the Rangers are, I don’t care how bad people expect the Sens to be, but the Sens took a three goal lead away from the Rangers one game ago.  You could have bet that the Rangers would not let that happen again.  So I’m not clear about how anyone expected the Sharks to take this game easily.

As the penalties stacked up, I thought “gee it would be nice if the team had a really good penalty killer on the 4th line so he could be all fresh and not tired…”  Someone like Scotty Nichol.  I know he had injury problems last season but gee, he was helpful.  Andrew Murray was doing time on the pk and the 4th line but he seems to be sticking on the 3rd line now.  Desjardins is getting more time on the penalty kill, in the last few games.  Really, it would be better to not have anyone spend so much time on the penalty kill, outside practice.

I don’t think fighting does what people say it does, not for the Sharks anyway. Unless there is really someone who needs to be put in his place and that can be done, I have yet to see the Sharks wake up, get fired up, show more interest, or anything positive in response to a fight.  Seems like other teams do, which should be less incentive for the Sharks to start anything.  I could have a short or sketchy memory but I can’t remember a recent Sharks game when fisticuffs turned a game around, not in their favor anyway.

At least this makes six wins… This morning Douglas Murray said that would be insufficient:

“Our overall record is not staggering by any means for our team,” he said. “We’re kind of more back where we should be. 6-4 is not good enough for us. 7-3 is a lot better. We’ve won five in a row, but it’s the overall picture, you’ve got to look at as well.” -Working the Corners

Oh well.  So much for that.

At least they’re up to sixth in the Conference standings.  That’s lots better than a week ago.

Go Sharks!

About Petshark: Talking Stick

Native of Northern California.  Hockey fan since 1998... sort of... there's a hiatus in there that I still can't explain.

I want to know about anything and everything related to the sport and the spectacle.  I watch, I react, I write it down.

My interest in the Sharks was initially a matter of geographic convenience and regional loyalty because that seemed to be how it worked.  I had no prior interest (at all-- AT ALL) in professional sports of any kind.  When I met hockey, it might have set off a chain reaction of general sports fandom.  It hasn't, I don't think it will.  At all.

Since then, that interest developed into full blown (mostly sort of usually almost completely) exclusive loyalty to the Sharks.

I started blogging a couple years ago on wordpress. I still occasionally put things there that I don't think fit here because they are not about the Sharks. Wherever my words wander, here on Kuklas Korner, they will (usually) hang on to a teal thread.
